About
My research team specializes in measuring protein quality of foods and food ingredients, including animal feed. We use a combination of in vitro and in vivo techniques to measure PDCAAS, DIAAS and PER, and we can determine the PER and PDCAAS of protein sources for official Health Canada and US FDA submissions. We have established NIR platforms to determine the amino acid content of crops to advance crop breeding programs and determine the impact of environmental and genetic factors influencing protein and amino acid contents of grains, oilseeds and pulses, as well as other protein-rich ingredients.
Another aspect of our research relates to sustainable egg production, including the evaluation of new feed ingredients for laying hens, the assessment of the impact of diet and housing strategies on nutrient flows, and the understanding of how laying hen diets impact the nutritional quality of eggs and the overall health of the laying hen.
